We helped Anglo American’s internal startup prove the feasibility of hydrogen-powered mining trucks by setting up and managing agile teams across Data, Simulation, and DevOps, underpinned by data-driven decision-making, enabling a £40 billion business case and the spinout of "First Mode."

(THE PROBLEM)

Anglo American aimed to prove the feasibility of running mining operations on hydrogen-powered trucks and producing sufficient hydrogen on-site. To do this, they formed an ambitious internal startup which required a robust digital framework to support its objectives, including data-driven decision-making and global team alignment.

(PROPOSED SOLUTION)

To achieve this, Konsida proposed setting up and managing digital teams specializing in Data, Simulation, and DevOps. We introduced a scalable, agile framework to onboard team members efficiently, foster alignment, and ensure delivery excellence across multiple regions

(WHAT WE DID)

Konsida designed and implemented a lightweight agile blueprint, enabling smooth onboarding and clear expectations for team members. Over 18 months, we established agile delivery practices and supported team growth across the UK, Australia, and the USA. By placing data at the core, we facilitated simulation and real-world scenario planning to validate the business case.

(THE RESULT)

Our efforts underpinned a £40 billion business case, demonstrating hydrogen's viability for mining operations. The internal startup successfully spun out as "FirstMode," now a leader in decarbonization solutions for heavy industry. This project set the foundation for Anglo American’s clean energy future while delivering impactful, data-driven outcomes.
